Erica C. Gonzalez

Erica Gonzalez is a Senior Associate at Redwood Public Law and provides advice and counsel to cities, counties and special districts of all types throughout the state. She currently serves as Assistant City Attorney for the City of San Leandro and General Counsel for the Sweetwater Springs Water District and West Valley Sanitation District. She also serves as the Assistant Town Attorney for the Town of Corte Madera, supporting the Town’s Planning Commission as well as staff.

Erica advises clients on a wide range of administrative and transactional municipal and public law issues including the interpretation, application of, and compliance with the Brown Act, the Public Records Act and other conflict of interest and ethics laws. She assists in a wide range of matters relating to local government administration, operations, and decision-making including negotiating, drafting, and reviewing public contracts as well as drafting local ordinances, resolutions, and regulations, with a particular focus on code enforcement and oversight of community police review boards.

Prior to joining the firm, Erica represented public entities as outside litigation counsel with a focus on public entity defense. She has a unique background in defending various types of public entities, including cities, municipalities, recreation districts, and transportation agencies in matters involving tort liability claims, design defect and dangerous condition of public property.

As an experienced litigator, Erica handles all aspects and stages of litigation for both private and public clients and has experience in both state and federal court. Erica also advises and counsels public entities on risk management, claim handling and early resolution.
